Askeladden, Norway's leading leisure boat manufacturer, is renowned for producing market-leading boats with an uncompromising focus on design. To enhance the user experience during the boat customization and pricing process, they wanted a boat configurator that functioned similarly to those found on automotive manufacturers' websites, in the form of a web application. It was crucial for the interface to reflect the high quality of their products and provide an intuitive, premium experience for users.
I designed a simple and intuitive interface that guides users step-by-step through the boat configuration process. Its functionality mirrors that of automotive configurators, making it familiar and user-friendly for those who have used similar tools before. The interface design was inspired by Google's Material Design system, chosen for its strong visual communication principles. A minimalist dark theme underscores the high-end nature of the product, while blue accents—such as buttons and hover states—evoke the maritime industry and align with the existing color scheme on Askeladden's website.
